Deloitte asked us with a critical mission: Illuminating the unseen path many Americans take when seeking disability benefits. Their challenge is to delve deep into the "Aware & Learn" phase before individuals even enter the SSA benefit application funnel.
As a leading UX designer, I spearhead user research, analyze findings, and translated them into impactful design solutions. I was also part of UX research and the visual design aspects of this project for the deliverables, including website prototype and instruction booklets.

Background
The Social Security Administration (SSA) is a federal program in the United States under which qualified individuals, their spouses, children, and survivors receive retirement benefits and disability income.
Millions of Americans rely on Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for crucial support. Yet, many eligible individuals never enter the application process, facing various barriers in the essential "Aware & Learn" phase.
Our approach
We discovered how people learn about Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and how much people get guided and approach to benefits.
Identifying roadblocks
We found hidden barriers that exclude vulnerable groups like non-English speakers, low-income families, the unhoused from application processes, examining the root causes.
Crafting inclusive solution
We crafted a roadmap to dismantle barriers, empower vulnerable populations with essential information, and facilitate a personalized,
dignified access to vital support.
